September September in the northern hemisphere marks the transition from summer to autumn. There are still some hot sunny days, but the nights are beginning to draw in and there is a nip in the early morning air. September marks the start of the new school year and children are eager to get back to school to meet their friends and to start on new studies. A new season of midweek church activities is also starting - youth organisations, men's and women's groups, and so on, providing opportunities for Christian fellowship, learning and recreation. But church membership and church attendance in many parishes in Ireland are falling, so this new season has to be not just another the same as last year. There has to be some serious praying for growth. Pray first for spiritual growth, that all in your local fellowship may grow daily into Christ, that the Holy Spirit will infuse and inspire your lives, so that others will look in and ask, "What are these Christians about?" Be ready to welcome those who are moved to enquire, to explain to them the faith that drives your life and to accept them into your fellowship. And if you are on the periphery of the church, and are provoked to ask questions, then do not hesitate any longer. Go in and find out what Christianity is really all about! Ken |
